Amy and I recently went to Chipotle for lunch and happened to be served our takeaway meals in a big paper bag with—lo and behold—lorem ipsum dummy text on the side. Unlike some have supposed, it was definitely “designed,” looking for all the world like carefully-careless, hand-drawn text. The bag includes the first few lines of the classic dummy text used for centuries to mock up layouts by printers, ad men and designers.
Webroot won MarCom Gold awards for two sales guides designed by Studio Pattern! We’ll be posting pictures of these exciting, informative pieces soon. The press release from MarCom is after the jump.
Welcome to the second installment of the “things you probably didn’t learn in graphic design school” series. This post will cover what to look for when you go to the print house to check the quality of the piece. The press check is the last line of defense against a flawed print job that has to be trashed. Hopefully, if you paid attention to this post on the prepress process, your document was flawless as far as you knew. Do comment if there’s another topic you’d like to see up here. Once we officially launch, we should be providing new content more frequently on a range of design, illustration, typography, and print-related topics.
One of Eric’s first projects when he started here at Pattern was to draw this friendly Silverback gorilla.
It was a careful development that ensured the gorilla image would reproduce and blow up well, since this graphic will be used not only on the can, but on shirts, glasses and lots of paraphernalia for Denver’s annual Gorilla Run. The run, like the sales of the canned Silverback Pale Ale, benefits the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund.
